There’s Always Something for Adults

Adults will have plenty to do at Atos West Chester with classes and private lessons running all day long. We believe that the school exist for the students, so in order to compensate for individual schedules, we will offer both morning and evening classes, monday through friday. These will range from the intro-level, low impact class designed to help support the newer students who are still adjusting to the movements of Jiu Jitsu, to the full blown competition style classes that the Atos team is renowned for, and everything in between.

BJJ Basics

BJJ basics will teach students the necessary and proper mechanics of Jiu Jitsu. The six month curriculum we provide has been hand-selected by Professor Andre Galvao and covers all the basic and most important positions, attacks and defenses. We repeat this course twice a year, so there is no wrong time to join! If you join in month 3, not a problem, you will jump right in! There is no ‘right time’ to start as all the basics are different and each one provides a great place to begin training Jiu Jitsu! You will also be exposed to new positions and techniques so you can begin to grow a foundation for more advanced theories and positions. This will be your time to find what style you like to play. Even though it isn’t mandatory at all, we wont shy away from grappling either! You will be encouraged to participate early and often as you choose to.

BJJ Advanced

BJJ Advanced class will focus on exploring different modern positions and theories to make a cohesive game for the student. This class will require a general understanding of the basics, as well as a humbleness to learn so you can advance your ability to perform. Some moves will click right away, whiles other will seem foreign in concept, but it is our duty to provide you with techniques that will work with every body type. If you are long and lean, we have move sets for that. If you like the pressure game like Professor Galvao, we have move sets for that as well! “I will teach you everything, not just my style. Do not mistake me, I love my style! But it doesn’t mean you have to use it. I want you to be able to choose your own style, so I will teach you all that I know!” – Professor Andre Galvao.

No-Gi

No-Gi is Jiu Jitsu without the traditional uniform. We will wear rash guards, t-shirts and board shorts, then continue training the same as the typical Jiu Jitsu class. The moves will be altered slightly as the student can no longer rely on the grips and friction of the gi, and adds an whole other dimension to their game. Wrestlers looking to get into Jiu Jitsu, MMA fighters looking to train in grappling all can use No-Gi as a gateway to get start Jiu Jitsu. In the hot and muggy summer days, its also a great relief to shed the gi and enjoy training without the uniform. This is as important as it is fun, but is not required for ranking up in the Jiu Jitsu belts, however, most who try it end up coming back to every class!

Open Mat

Drill to win! We will offer a healthy amount of open mat time for you to come in and work on what you want. Have a knew idea or a move you have been trying to get? This is the time to come in and do it at your leisure. You can roll if you and your partner are interested, ask the professor questions that have been bothering you, and most importantly, DRILL! Drilling in the ATOS family is like learning to walk, its one of the first (and last) things you will do! Getting a move to become muscle memory is the key to success. While the mind contemplates strategy, the body executes without any added thought. This is the best time to grab your teammate and drill moves while enjoying the light atmosphere, and children who are members are always encouraged to come to open mat!

Private Lessons

These one-on-one classes with the Instructor are available at all times of the day besides scheduled class times. This is the time to get the information you want, first hand, with the undivided attention of the instructor. Having trouble with a certain teammates style of passing, we can work on a defense that will provide exactly what you need to stop their pass. Been close to finishing a certain sweep but can’t seem to finish it? We will breakdown the move step by step until we discover where you are and where you need to be. Any questions that require more than a few minutes on the mat will best be answered in this format. Group privates are just as welcome and just as rewarding as it opens an other dimension in what can be taught and observed!
