Jason Eames

As told by Jason Eames himself.

I have a unrelenting need to train, teach and live the lifestyle of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!  It permeates into all facets of my life and I could conceive no other lifestyle or career that would better suit me or my propose.  It has been 14 years since I started training in Jiu Jitsu and everyday that passes, I feel better for it.   From the ages 17 to 26, my time was spent with members of the Robson Moura team, training and competing throughout the east coast, from Maryland up to Massachusetts.  The last four years however, I have dedicated all my effort into my teaching techniques and philosophies of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well as growing the foundation for my family.  I had found my home with Andre Galvao and the Atos team and my fiancé and I moved to San Diego California.

Now I could train and focus full-time on Jiu Jitsu with Professor Galvao and learn his style of teaching and competing, working towards earning a career in Jiu Jitsu.  It was there that I was exposed to the unparalleled array of different ideas and game plans, all from the best in the game.  Andre had Bruno Frazzato showed his guard work, The Mendes Brothers showed their passes, Davi Ramos his leg attacks and so on.  Professor Galvao taught everyday and in his classes he portrayed his ideas and movements of Jiu Jitsu, constantly pushing us and blazing the way for the his cutting edge techniques.  As his teachings evolved, the young team grew into a power house on the Southern California Jiu Jitsu Circuit, winning and closing out most of the divisions they entered in.

In 2012 I received my Brown Belt from Professor Galvao, and my preparations on the in-and-outs of running a successful program took center focus.  I was given the 9 am class to teach so professor could watch and critique my lessons and game plans.  Andre then sent Black Belt second degree Leo D’avila to support the class and allow me to pick his brain on an ever deeper level.  By summer of 2013 it was time to start looking for my own location and although California is great, I could think of no better area to open a gym then my home town of West Chester.  I grew up here, I want to raise my family here, so where better to start my journey?

We officially opened our doors in April of 2014 on South Bradford Ave. and began teaching the best Jiu Jitsu available.  Within a few months of being open, it was time for Professor Galvao to come out and see for himself the new academy we built, and his reaction was more than memorable.   This would of been the highlight of my time with him, but Professor had other plans.  He promoted me to Black Belt in front of my students and family, and without warning.

I had done what I set out to do and this has humbled me to no end, I become a black belt under the best teacher I could find.  Andre Galvao is a known entity in the BJJ world, ADCC champ, World champ, but little is said about his ability to teach.  He is possibly the best around, and I am a living testament to this.  I am now beyond excited to have an opportunity to make a difference in the community that I grew up in and cherish and spread ATOS Jiu Jitsu.  I can’t wait to see you guys on the mats!
